The April Face

4 May 2015

April was a month of exams, assignments, and a mid-semester break that should have been spent on said exams and assignments.

Because of this, my face spent most of its time in the nude, but when I did feel like letting makeup grace the face, I went for a light-ish base, bare eyes, a pop on the cheeks (literally), and an intriguing nude combination on the lips.

First, the Clinique Cheek Pop in 'Ginger Pop'. Can we take a minute to appreciate how cute this blush is? If I were a beauty magazine, I would give it the award for best packaging, but I'm not a beauty magazine, so it'll have to settle for the Random Beauty Enthusiast With A Blog Award for now. Clinique have so graciously released four new shades onto the market (Cola Pop will be mine, mark my words *shakes fist*), but until they're released in Australia, I'm more than happy with Ginger Pop. It's a muted, dusty coral that adds the perfect amount of natural-looking flush to the cheeks, without over-emphasising any problems you may have on the skin. A blush couldn't be more perfect.

I remember when The Matte Lip Collection by MAC rolled around. I was on the way home from uni on a rickety thing of a train, and felt the need to avoid accidental eye contact with other passengers by (understandably) looking at lipstick shades on the MAC website. I'm not a MAC Lipstick addict by any means, but I do appreciate that they've got a nice array of colours and formulas. What I didn't appreciate at the time was how much I'd end up wanting the shade 'Styled in Sepia'. I originally thought it was an interesting colour, but wasn't sure I could pull it off. After seeing it countless times on Jess from SunbeamsJess and again on Yanin of PrettySickly / IDressMyselff, I decided I needed it. Of course by then, the collection was long gone. Months later, I stumbled across the Models Prefer Nude Lipstick in 'Naked'. Lo and behold, an affordably-priced lipstick that somewhat resembles the much-coveted Styled in Sepia. It doesn't have the same matte, opaque formula, but it gives a similar look, just more sheer. My craving has been satisfied for now. I wear it on top of the Savvy Nourishing Lip Liner in 'Chestnut' if I want it to look more brown, but I bet it'd look awesome on something like the MAC Lip Pencil in 'Stripdown' or 'Oak'.

On the eyes, a wash of the MAC Paint Pot in 'Painterly'. I prefer to wear this on its own rather than as a base, as I feel like it makes it harder to blend out eyeshadows I put on top. Mine is beginning to develop the ring of death. It'll undoubtedly shrivel up and fall out of the pot within the coming months.

The rest of the face is pretty routinely: the Ponds Age Miracle BB Cream SPF15 in 'Beige', the Bobbi Brown Corrector in 'Peach' under the eyes, the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer in 'Ginger' on any spots or redness, a dusting of the MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in 'Medium Tan', and the VOV Original Eyebrow Pencil.

Onto May! May the fourth be with you. (I know, if you had a rotten tomato, you'd probably throw it at me).
