The May Face

27 May 2015

Gone are the days where putting makeup on takes longer than queuing up at the post office. Instead, the May face was everything I wish I was in every other aspect of my life--quick, simple and fuss-free.

I've featured most of these products before but that's because they're my tried and tested. As a slow poke/sloth/constant recipient of the words 'hurry up', using products that I'm very familiar with is an ingenious way for me to save time in the mornings as I'll often know exactly how everything will turn out on the skin (I kind of maybe have a small mental breakdown whenever my makeup turns out terribly and I have to start again).

Even though I have a lot of redness and hyperpigmentation on my face, my makeup philosophy for days when I'm just going to uni or work is to choose natural-looking over coverage. Whilst my Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer in 'Ginger' has a good amount of coverage, it doesn't quite correct my redness woes, but I don't mind because it has a satin, barely detectable finish on the skin. Mine is on its last legs but I still refuse to whip out my replacement one until my current one becomes as dry as a bone.

Next comes Old Faithful once more, the Bobbi Brown Corrector in 'Peach'. It's creamy (perhaps too creamy if you have lots of fine lines in the undereye area) but an easy option for the dark circles that give me that oh-so-enviable haggard look, even when I have been sleeping.

I have a fear. That fear is having a shiny forehead in photos. To prevent such nightmares from occurring even though the fear is irrational (who has ever tried to take a photo of me at uni or work?), I look to the Milani Multitasker Powder in 'Light Tan'. I bounce it across my T-zone with the Shu Uemura The Lightbulb Sponge. Shine has been eliminated. Karina is happy.

For the brows, Maybelline Brow Drama in 'Dark Brown' does the job, and the Shiseido Eyelash Curlers keep me from looking sleepy. A light pop of colour on the cheeks, courtesy of the Josie Maran Coconut Watercolour Cheek Gelée in 'Poppy Paradise', a few swipes of a lip balm like the Antipodes Organic Lime Leaf & Cocoa Butter Lip Balm and I'm out the door. The best part? I'm even on time. That is, until I've discovered how grossly I've underestimated travelling time (Sydney traffic is like a bad flatmate--frustratingly unbearable but something you just have to live with).
