5 Budget Buys: Winter Edition

30 June 2015

Five affordable beauty bits that'll be sure to get you through winter

Winter is well and truly upon us. Despite always being a fan of cooler weather, this year, for whatever reason, I've become a bit of a granny. I've taken to wearing two pairs of socks, I'm in desperate need of some long johns because jeans alone just don't cut it any more, and my skin is as dull and thirsty as its ever been.

For dry lips, try Go-To Skincare Lips! $14.95

I'm a bit of a lip balm fiend. I'm always on the hunt for new and exciting formulations but one nourishing option I like for daytime wear is Lips! The shiny finish and delicious pomegranate scent makes it perfect for low-key looks.

For lacklustre skin, try the Swisse Macadamia & Chamomile Face Oil $19.99

Affordable, non-irritating face oils are somewhat of a rarity. Sure, there's good old rosehip oil, but for something with a little extra oomph, the oils of macadamia, chamomile and grape seed in this face oil work to soothe and hydrate the skin. A winter must-have for sensitive skin sufferers!

If you're after bright eyes, try the Maybelline EyeStudio Lasting Drama Gel Pot Liner $16.95

Eyeliner works all year 'round -- true, but when I think of wintry eye makeup, a chic winged eyeliner look springs to mind. Liquid liner is great for sharp flicks, but gel gives you a little more room for play as it can go on the top and bottom lashline, the waterline, and can be smudged out if so desired.

For sallow skin, try the Rimmel Lasting Finish Mono Blush in 'Tuscany' $9.95

I love a good berry-toned blush for giving you that natural wind-kissed flush, but for those battling redness in the cheeks, this blush's peachy terracotta hue gives life to the face without accentuating any problem areas. It's one of those handy blush/bronzer hybrid shades I've been obsessed with lately, and such a bargain too!

If you're after comfortable lip colours, try the Essence Longlasting Lipsticks $4.70

I think I've said it before but these lipsticks are the epitome of cheap and cheerful. The thin, balmy formula is easy to apply and comfortable to wear -- definitely one of my all-time favourite formulas. Pictured is 'Barely There' (less red, more mauve in real life) but Essence do a bunch of great, soft, wintry colours.
