Sensitive Skin Saviours

28 July 2015

Make irritation a thing of the past

My name is Karina, and I have sensitive skin. My skin gets red and blotchy. It gets dry and flaky. It gets inflamed, itchy and sore -- and I get frustrated and sad. Luckily, I have some trusty skincare bits that won't add insult (irritation) to injury (sore skin).

Clinique are known for being fragrance-free, though this doesn't always guarantee a great product. However, with the Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm, it does. This giant tub is the result of only a handful of ingredients that are effective, yet gentle at removing makeup, including long-wearing and waterproof products. The lack of fragrance is especially good when melting away eye makeup, as I find that fragranced cleansing balms or oils can irritate my eyes. Just make sure you go in with a second cleanser afterwards to get rid of any of the balm's residue.

I'm a big fan of French pharmacy (pharmacie?) brands, as I think many encapsulate how I think skincare should be. I like products that are simple, gentle, and that do the job they say they'll do. The La Roche-Posay Toleriane Riche Soothing Protective Cream is a moisturiser aimed at dryer skin types that--although doesn't do anything miraculous--does certainly impart the skin with a layer of hydration (which may just be considered miraculous after all, given the amount of weak moisturisers on the market). My skin seems to drink this stuff up, and has never been left feeling congested or irritated by it. It's a definite go-to for me, and something I'll continue to repurchase.

A few months ago, I went on a long hunt to find a body lotion sans fragrance, and it was surprisingly hard. I do love using a good scented body butter (so luxury, much wow), but my issue is that the fragrance would linger on my hands, irritating my face whenever my hands so much as brushed past it. I'm so happy I found the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Lotion, because my face hasn't had a scent-related flare-up since! The lotion is nourishing without feeling heavy. Instead, it has a light, slightly water-like texture that spreads and rubs easily into the skin. Easily the best body lotion I've ever used.

Have you tried any of these sensitive skin saviours?
