The Travel Makeup Bag

16 July 2015

A surprising show of self-restraint

Let's face it: packing is kind of hard. Not only do you have to try and predict what you'll need; you've only got so much room to work with. If you read the first part of my travel packing series, you will have seen that I've managed to narrow down my skincare kit quite a bit, and I'm trying to continue the trend with the makeup bag I'll be taking.

Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer in 'Ginger'
Bobbi Brown Corrector in 'Peach'
Milani The Multitasker Face Powder in 'Light Tan'
Makeup Revolution Blush in 'Treat'

Laura Mercier Caviar Stick in 'Cocoa'
Maybelline Color Tattoo in 'Tough As Taupe'
VOV Good-bye Eye Pender Eyebrow Pencil
Shiseido Eyelash Curlers

People For Plants Organic Lip Balm in 'Pink Grapefruit & Sweet Fennel'
Rimmel Lasting Finish 1000 Kisses Lip Liner in 'Cappuccino'
MAC Lipstick in 'All Fired Up' (Retro Matte)
Savvy Long Lasting Matte Lipstick in 'Bali'
Essence Longlasting Lipstick in 'On The Catwalk!'

It might surprise you that there's no liquid foundation/tinted moisturiser-type base in sight (it kind of surprises me too). For someone who's always looking to cover up hyperpigmentation and redness, foundation (particularly of the liquid kind) is a staple. However, I've recently been enjoying going straight in with concealer as my base with a bit of undereye corrector, of course. The result has been a more natural finish on the skin with less product.

Mascara is also something I won't be taking with me. I go into a bit of detail in an upcoming post about why I've never gotten on with mascara, but the short version is that even with a waterproof formula and the least amount applied possible, it smudges on me. EVERY time. EVERY mascara. *crying emoji* *all the crying emojis*

I have this fear that my makeup will go missing whilst travelling, which is why I won't be bringing any of my more expensive or less readily-available lip products, as silly as that may sound. I am bringing MAC All Fired Up though because it might just be my favourite bold lipstick for its matte(r) than matte formula and the fact that it lasts through eating and drinking -- something I expect to be doing a lot of on this trip.

I'm almost embarrassed to admit that by the time I leave next week, I'll have had this makeup bag planned for close to three weeks. Three weeks! If that ain't a sign you love makeup, I don't know what is.
