A UK Beauty Swap With A Day In Her Makeup!

8 December 2015

Swapping makeup is a whole lotta fun when you have someone as lovely as Hannah from A Day In Her Makeup to swap with. Featuring products from great British high street brands, these items show that quality is not always dictated by price.

With the first swap going so well, it was only a matter of time before Hannah and I decided to do a second swap. She was keen to try out ColourPop Cosmetics since they (oddly enough) don't ship to the UK, and I was interested in getting my hands on some Kiko and Natural Collection products. Hannah also very kindly picked out some other high street items for me to try -- all of which I ended up loving! The items came shipped in a cute box, complete with the sweetest letter, which is just testament to how lovely she is.

When I first laid eyes on the Kiko Rebel Romantic collection, I was in awe. A makeup collection based on rosy neutral hues and housed in expensive-looking rose gold packaging? Yes to the please. When Hannah and I decided another swap was in order, this Kiko collection was at the very top of my wishlist.

Kiko Rebel Romantic Rebel Bouncy Blush in '01 Velvety Peach'
Browsing the Kiko website, I was instantly intrigued by this blush and its spongey-looking texture. Would it feel powdery? Creamy? Moussey? Wet? I had to know, and so I asked Hannah to add this one to the cart. It turns out that the blush is not as spongey or porous as I thought, and is instead a balmy, almost wet-feeling powder -- truly interesting. Velvety Peach looks to be the most neutral of the four shades available, and is a mix between a peach and a mauve. It's very inoffensive and great for giving your cheeks a soft rosy glow with its satin finish.

Kiko Rebel Romantic Intensely Lavish Lipstick in '02 Pretty Mauve'
I definitely didn't need any more lipsticks but, once again, the packaging drew me in. I was surprised by how weighty this lipstick feels, and the fact that it has a magnetic closure, *swoon*. Although I've always said packaging isn't the most important factor, it's great that a more affordable brand can still put thought into their packaging. The lipstick itself is creamy and most definitely not short of pigment. It glides on wonderfully, and gives a satin finish on the lips. Mauve lips are having a moment right now, and this lipstick is a great way to achieve that look.

Kiko Rebel Romantic Perfecting Bronzer in '01 Light to Medium'
If I'm being honest, I'm not much of a bronzer user. I personally think my skin tone is a hair too dark to truly benefit from bronzer, but I'm still open to trying ones out -- especially if they look as pretty as this one does! The classic 'nipple' compact strikes again (a la Charlotte Tilbury's Cheek to Chic Swish and Pop Blushers), but this time, the centre is a pearly pink that acts like more of a glow than actual colour. I'm still playing around with this one, but so far, I'm impressed by just how smooth the powder is. I mean, there's smooth, and then there's smooooth. This bronzer is the latter; the one-thousand-count-bedsheets, freshly-shaven-legs type of smooth.

Kiko Rebel Romantic Colour Definition Eyeliner and Kajal in '02 Brown'
Also from the same collection, though Hannah surprised me with this number! Brown is my eyeliner colour of choice, so she definitely hit the nail on the head with this one. This is a great deep, chocolately shade -- the kind that everyone needs in their collection. It's also twist-up, which is always appreciated. Excited to get more use out of this.

Kiko Smart Eye Pencil in '814 Pearly Grey'
Another Kiko item Hannah bestowed me with. She mentioned in her letter that she chose this silvery shade because it might look good on the waterline as something a bit different, and boy was she right! The eye pencil is a shimmery gunmetal grey, and looks amazing on the waterline as an alternative to darker, or even brighter colours. I'm a neutral girl through and through, but I've loved adding a hint of sparkle to my daily makeup. A great colour for nights out but subtle enough for everyday too.

Natural Collection Solo Eyeshadow in 'Milk Chocolate' and 'Asteroid'
As much as I like eyeshadow palettes, I do seem to really enjoy single eyeshadows. Perhaps I was subconsciously thinking of ColourPop SuperShock Shadows when I asked Hannah to pick these two eyeshadows up for me, but either way, they're little pots of goodness, and so affordable too! I'm so pleased with the shades I got. Milk Chocolate is the perfect subtly-warm crease shade for me (think along the lines of MAC Soft Brown) and Asteroid is a pearly rich brown I like using on the outer-v (reminds me of MAC Mulch). These shadows apply and blend quite well with fingers, which is always a bonus when you're in a rush.

Natural Collection Blushed Cheeks in 'Peach Melba'
This was one of the items Hannah picked out for me. How did she know I've always wanted this? I do not know, but it's wonderful that our makeup tastes are so similar. Peach Melba piqued my interest years ago when I first started getting into makeup. I remember it being quite popular with UK bloggers and vloggers, so when I opened the parcel and saw this in there, I was over the moon. On my skin tone, it's a barely-there dusty peach colour -- ideal for every day. I think it'd also make a great option for beginners, since it's so fool-proof.

Seventeen Mirror Shine Lipstick in 'Beehive'
I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this in my parcel either. Like Peach Melba, I've wanted Beehive for the longest time, so much so that I was almost hesitant to try the shade on, for fear that it wouldn't suit me like I had hoped. It turns out that it's the most perfect colour, finish and formula I could ask for. The lipstick has this thick, jelly/gel-like texture, but feels neither too thick nor too slippy on the lips. It's quite sheer, which suits me just fine, and gives off a healthy, glossy sheen. Beehive is a my-lips-but-brighter colour that I imagine would look good on anyone. It's, without a doubt, my new favourite balmy-type lipstick, and has earned itself a permanent spot in my handbag. I actually had a moment of panic last week when I looked in my bag and couldn't find it. Turns out it had been sitting on my bed. Not sure how it ended up there, but considering how much I love it, it wouldn't be surprising if I had to hold onto it whilst I slept, too...
